About GI Hex Bolt (Hot-Dip Galvanised)
GI hex bolts are hot-dip galvanised: dipped in molten zinc to get a thick, tough coating that protects the steel outdoors for many years.
Why GI for outdoor work
Electro zinc-plated bolts start to rust once the thin coating wears. The thick HDG coat on GI bolts stands up to monsoon rain, coastal air around the delta and direct sun, which is why solar installers, tower erectors and electrical contractors ask for GI.

MS and high-tensile GI bolts, M8 to M24, with matching GI nuts and washers. For water, chemical or food areas where no rust is acceptable, use SS 304 hex bolts.

›Is GI better than zinc plating?
Yes, for outdoor use. Hot-dip galvanising puts a much thicker zinc coat on the bolt, so it lasts years longer in rain and sun than thin electro zinc plating.
›Do GI bolts need GI nuts?
Yes. Use GI nuts and washers with GI bolts. The nuts are tapped slightly oversize to fit over the thick coating.
